Let’s talk about Hokkaido

Hokkaido is located at the northernmost tip of Japan, surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Okhotsk on all sides. Blessed with majestic mountains, expansive wetlands, and beautiful lakes, Hokkaido boasts a rich food culture that utilizes fresh seafood, dairy and agricultural products. It also holds a history and culture that includes the Ainu people, as well as being a popular tourist destination due to these factors. Despite its cool and humid climate with snow-covered winters, measures have been taken to manage snow, particularly in urban areas like Sapporo, ensuring comfortable living conditions. And guess what? Hokkaido doesn’t get bothered too much by the rainy season, typhoons, or pollen.

Hokkaido attracts many tourists throughout the year, including foreign visitors who find it quite appealing. In places like hotels, ski resorts, and water activity spots, you’ll often spot foreign workers bustling around. In recent years, the number of foreign workers engaged in the construction industry has also increased (with many being technical trainees), surpassing even the accommodation and food service sectors. Moreover, foreign individuals who have graduated from Japanese universities, as well as those with residence status for technical skills, humanities knowledge, and international business, are working as regular employees or contract workers.
